The word desire is made up of the two separate parts de and sire . . . 'de' means 'of'' and 'sire' is 'self'. Desire therefore means—of the self—but it also means to serve the self and this is not wrong.
To serve the self is not "self-serving" . . . it is not "selfish" and is not a bad thing at all. Get accustomed to doing it and you will find it gratifying and others will want to be around you.
