Everything is in the Hands of the Creator; He does what is done. Nanak begs for the gift of the dust of the feet of the Holy, which shall deliver him. || 1 || FIFTH MEHL: Enshrine Him in your mind, the One who created you. Whoever meditates on the Lord and Master obtains peace. Fruitful is the birth, and approved is the coming of the Gurmukh. One who realizes the Hukam of the Lord’s Command shall be blessed — so has the Lord and Master ordained. One who is blessed with the Lord’s Mercy does not wander. Whatever the Lord and Master gives him, with that he is content. O Nanak, one who is blessed with the kindness of the Lord, our Friend, realizes the Hukam of His Command. But those whom the Lord Himself causes to wander, continue to die, and take reincarnation again. || 2 || PAUREE: The slanderers are destroyed in an instant; they are not spared for even a moment. God will not endure the sufferings of His slaves, but catching the slanderers, He binds them to the cycle of reincarnation. Grabbing them by the hair on their heads, the Lord throws them down, and leaves them on the path of Death. They cry out in pain, in the darkest of hells. Nishkam

A beautifully short film on Sikhism by The Source Project. It takes about the concept of nishkam (sacrifice, compassion, love). There's also amazing scenes of an Amrit Sanchar (initiation ceremony).

Sometimes we get overwhelmed with the details and complexities of our lives. Sometimes we need some help to get untangled, to gain a new perspective. Ask for help (Do ARDAAS/Pray). Help may come in human or divine form. It may be seen or unseen. Ask, and ye shall receive.

We may think we have challenges, but we have so many blessings. Sometimes it takes only a moment of conscious effort to recognize those blessings. Once we focus on the gifts instead of the problems, our whole perspective will change and we will see blessings everywhere.

There are times when no matter how hard we try, we just cannot accept our self as we are. During such times, think of how we look to God's eyes. In God's eyes, there is no judgment, there is only acceptance. God sees our light when all that we can see are our shadows. God loves us more than anyone could ever love us as we really are.

Even when we feel ugly or depressed or guilty or ashamed, there is an inner spark in us which is light. This light is our beauty. This light is our reflection of God. We are a child of God, thus we are beautiful.

My prayer for you today is............

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small, desert like island. The two survivors, not knowing what else to do, agree that they had no other recourse but to pray to God. However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land and he was able to eat it's fruit. The other man's parcel of land remained barren!

After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. The next day, there was a woman who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the island, again there was nothing!

Soon the first man prayed for a house, clothes, more food. The next day, like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man still had nothing!

Finally, the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife could leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of the island. The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the second man on the island. He considered the other man unworthy to receive God's blessings, since none of his prayers had been answered.

As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, "Why are you leaving your companion on the island?"
"My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed for them," the first man answered. "His prayers were all unanswered and so he does not deserve anything."
"You are mistaken!" the voice rebuked him. "He had only one prayer, which I answered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my blessings."

"Tell me, O God," the first man asked the voice, "What did he pray for that I should owe him anything?"

"He prayed that all your prayers be answered."

For all we know, our blessings are not the fruits of our prayers alone, but those of another praying for us.

Gurdwara Gwari Ghat

Gwarighat is a famous river bank(ghat) on the banks of the river Narmada in the city of Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh, India.

It is associated with Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism.

Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji undertook four journeys, also known as Udaasis (literally a somber state of mind, here - travels), in order to spread his message. He traveled four times in four different directions from his native Punjab. During his first Udasi starting in 1501 CE he traveled to eastern and southern India. During his return towards Punjab he stopped at Gwarighat and preached there. There is a Gurudwara (a Sikh temple) Gurdwara Gwari Ghat on the picturesque bank of the Narmada river to commemorate Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji's visit.
